What You Don't Know
From WikiStory
Avery always knew what he wanted. He was just that kind of person. Once he decided on something, it was final. So, by the time he was only 19 years old, he knew he was fully committed to being with Jason, his boyfriend of the past two years, and he wanted to make it official. That is why Jason now wore an engagement ring on his left hand, nothing fantastic or attention-grabbing though, not on Avery's small salary. Avery barely made enough money to cover the necessities, including rent on his one-bedroom apartment. Though soon, there would be two people to share all the expenses.
However, not everything was going to be so easy, especially for Avery. His parents had no clue that their son was gay, and certainly not that he was soon to be married. Avery had thought about telling them before, but, until his engagement, he'd never seen a reason to bring it up. His parents had never been too supportive of the gay community, but they'd always sworn to love Avery, no matter what. Though if it could be helped, Avery had wanted to keep it a secret as long as he could. Now though, Avery knew he had to tell them. What kind of child would he be to get married without even informing his parents? Avery had been vocalizing his concern with Jason one day, when Jason had chuckled.
"Why not just give them a wedding invitation? That would get the point across, no?" Of course, Jason had been kidding, but ever since then, Avery had been thinking about those words, wondering just what would happen if he actually did that. The invitations were already made up and the wedding was set for a date four weeks away. That gave him plenty of time to let his parents know and to let them cool down a bit and get used to the idea. Avery did want them at his wedding after all. He tried to think of any other way to tell his parents, but none seemed as good as merely handing them an invitation.
That is why, one week later, Avery was sitting in a restaurant too fancy for his taste with his parents, a wedding invitation resting hidden in his deep pocket. Dinner had been served and dessert was on its way when finally the conversation turned in the direction Avery had been waiting for.
