The silly duckling
Everyone into the water! Mother duck ordered her seven little ones. And keep close behind me! Proudly, she straightened her neck and led them to a spot where the reeds were so high that they would be hidden. For young ducks are beset by many dangers! Dracko, the smallest duckling, and the most mischievous, was always being told, Don't hang around at the back all the time! I wish I could hurry up and be a duck! He sighed. And the ducklings did grow into ducks who learned to fly. But Mother Duck kept up her warnings to Dracko. Mrs Frog, coming out of the water, caught side of them: Ugh she said, seven more greedy frog - eating ducks! Then she ran away in leaps and bounds, taking her family with her. Oh Ho! Said Dracko, spotting them. Frog! They would make a nice change of diet! Ready for anything, he followed them. But a sparrow- hawk swept down towards the duck. Mrs Frog, seeing the bird of prey, called, Silly duck! Leave the frogs alone and look up! You are about to be carried off by the hawk! Thank you, Mrs Frog. It would have served me right! Said Dracko gratefully. I hope I can help you one day. You can do something for me. Eat something other than frogs! Yes, I promise, I wil tell all my family too! promised Dracko. How lovely to be all together again! But Dracko was still shaking. Shame- Faced, he told his story and of his promise to the frogs. The ducks swore they would never again eat the friendly frogs!
