Help:Getting the Attention of an Administrator
From WikiStory
(Note: Help:GetAdmin redirects here)
Administrators can ban authors and perform other functions that the regular authors cannot. The various reasons that you might want to contact an Administrator or draw their attention to a page and the steps you would take to do so are listed here.
Contents |
Resolving a Dispute
If two groups of authors collaborating on a story or other piece of writing cannot resolve a disagreement on their own, and do not want to split the story and take it in two different directions (because either the argument is not so large as to merit a split or because the authors do not wish to do so), they can ask for Administrator help. Some Administrators have experience in writing and can help a group of authors agree on a route to take.
To mark a dispute, put the following into the talk page where the dispute is taking place:
Dispute
It will display:
There is a dispute on this page that requires Administrative assistance.
Blocking an Author
A member of WikiStory who is vandalizing pages or taking other malicious actions may be banned from the site temporarily or permanently.
If you want to report a user who you think needs to be banned, or at whom you would like an Administrator to look, put the following the the talk page of that author:
(reason for request)
For example, if you put on the author's page:
This author has vandalized the Example page many times.
it will display as:
Deleting a Page
If you created a page in error, come across an empty page, or for other reasons you may want to have that page deleted.
To request that a page be deleted, put on that page:
(reason for request)
For example, if you put on the page:
page is empty.
It will display as
If you want to mark an Author Page for deletion, put the above notice on the Author Talk page and in the reason for request section note the fact that you are referring to the Author Page and not the Author Talk page.
Renaming/Moving a Page
Many times writers compose stories before thinking of the perfect title. This holds true for groups of writers as well. While you are encouraged to think carefully about the title of new stories, poems, plots, and character descriptions, it is acceptable, if agreed by consensus, to request that an administrator change the title.
To request a name change (also called "moving"), put the following on the page:
(new name)
For example, if you wanted to rename the help page you are looking at now, you could type:

and get the following notice:
It has been requested that Administrators rename this page from Getting the Attention of an Administrator to the following: "GetAdmin"
The reason given is: The new name would be shorter and it abbreviates 'Administrator' as 'Admin'Protect/Unprotect a Page
If a page is undergoing significant vandalism or should not be edited by ordinary authors, it can be protected. If you feel that a page should be protected, put the following on the page:
(reason for request)
For example, if you put on the page
This story keeps getting messed with and vandalized.
it would display
It has been requested that this page be protected.
The reason given is: This story keeps getting messed with and vandalized..
Authors can still write on the talk page associated with a protected story (though if the need arises, talk pages themselves can also be protected)
If there is a protected page that you feel should be unprotected, put the following on its associated talk page:
(reason for request)
(Note that unprotect requests are the same as protect requests, just with a second paramter of "u".) For example, if you put
Everybody who was vandalizing this page has been banned.
it will display
It has been requested that the story, poem, plot, or character description associated with this talk page be unprotected.
The reason given is: Everybody who was vandalizing this page has been banned..
Mark a Page as Stolen
What you submit to WikiStory must be your own work or work to which you hold the copyright. Stealing or plagarizing is not allowed. If you wish to quote from another source, please footnote it. If you find that an author has stolen a story or part of a story from either another author's Author page or from some other website, mark it with the following code:
(where from)
For example, if you put
me, William Shakespeare.
it will display
This story, poem, plot, or character description has been marked as stolen. Theft will not be tolerated on WikiStory, and an Administrator will investigate this claim.
It is claimed that {} is stolen from me, William Shakespeare.
By default, the notice refers to "this work", but it is possible that you want to mark only part of the page as stolen, for example only one of five poems on an Author page, or only a couple of paragraphs in a story.
To mark a part of a page as stolen, you can put the following on the page:
(where from)
For example, if you put
me, William Shakespeare.
it will display
This story, poem, plot, or character description has been marked as stolen. Theft will not be tolerated on WikiStory, and an Administrator will investigate this claim.
It is claimed that the third sonnet on this page is stolen from me, William Shakespeare.
General Purpose
If you feel there is a need for an Administrator to look at a page or take action for some reason not listed above, you have two options. You can leave a message on an Administrator's talk page, or you can put the following on a page to which you want to draw an Administrator's attention:
(reason)
For example, if you write
I want an Administrator to look at this.
it will display
This message means that an Administrator has been asked to notice this page.
This reason given is: I want an Administrator to look at this.
